US Open Favorites

Jon Rahm

Having recovered from the turmoil of Memorial weekend, Jon Rahm is being backed to bag his first major this week. Unfinished business from the Memorial Tournament will be on his mind, and the Spaniard will be looking to repeat the success from his 2017 Farmers Insurance Open win at Torrey Pines.

Dustin Johnson

The last time DJ played a tune-up before a major, he won The Masters 2020. After playing solid golf at the Palmetto Championship, the world number one has his eyes on a third major and second US Open title.

Brooks Koepka

With a dodgy knee and little playing time under his belt, Brooks Koepka still pushed Phil Mickelson right to the wire at Kiawah Island last month. He doesn't have the best record at Torrey Pines, but there's just something about a major championship that flicks a switch in his head. Given his recent back and forth with Bryson, he'll be looking to take the title from his rival's hands this weekend.

Jordan Spieth

After several years outside of the winner's circle, a win at the Valero Texas Open has transformed Jordan Spieth's game. He's been a regular contender this season on tour and if the field let the four-time major winner gather too much momentum, he may just leave them in his dust.

Rory McIlroy

Following a missed cut at Augusta with a win at the Wells Fargo Championship, betting on Rory McIlroy is a rollercoaster. Since his win, his struggles continued with a poor weekend at the PGA Championship. The Northern Irishman will be desperate to add another major to his collection after seven years, but a fast start at a major has eluded him for so long.

Bryson DeChambeau

The defending champion has a job on his hands if he wants to follow in the footsteps of his rival and successfully win back-to-back US Open titles. DeChambeau has mixed erratic shots with touches of genius on tour this season, but it'll all be about control if he is to be in with a chance at Torrey Pines, a course that demands much more than length.

US Open Contenders

Justin Thomas

Since winning The Players Championship in March, Thomas has struggled to really make a go at either of the two majors so far this year. It feels like there are more consistent players competing this weekend ahead of him, but his all-round game is so strong that a fast start might be all he needs.

Patrick Cantlay

Patrick Cantlay missed four cuts in a row before registering a T23 at the PGA Championship and then winning at the Memorial Tournament. There may be a small asterisk next to his victory, given Rahm's withdrawal, but he'll go into this week confident that his game is back where it needs to be to compete on the big stage.

Patrick Reed

Having lingered around the top 10 a fair bit this season, it's about time Patrick Reed gets himself into contention at a major tournament. He may split opinion, but Reed is deserving of more praise for such a strong tee-to-green game.

Collin Morikawa

The 2020 PGA Championship winner has gone from strength to strength. He's been extremely consistent since his win at the WGC Mexico, with three top 10s, including a playoff loss at Muirfield Village. The fearless 24-year old leads the tour for strokes gained tee-to-green, but will need to continue to improve with his putter to start stacking up the wins.

US Open Outsiders

Phil Mickelson

Against all odds, Phil Mickelson became the oldest ever major winner at Kiawah Island. At 51 years old, lefty fought off a packed field and registered the longest drive of the week while doing so. Despite his win, Mickelson isn't backed to repeat his success, but he did win at Torrey Pines in successive years back in 2000 and 2001. Anyone for an each-way bet?

Paul Casey

As another member of the 'old guard', Paul Casey has had a really strong 2021 and is building a strong case to be in Padraig Harrington's Ryder Cup team come September. A major is the only thing missing from his illustrious career spanning 20 years and Casey will feel this could be his best opportunity yet.
